High School Gerantology Practicum
Each year, Serving Our Seniors director Sue Daugherty partners with some of her senior citizen friends and Perkins & Sandusky High schools sociology departments to provide students with a Gerontology component to their classes. The classes are designed to break down the stereotypical ideas and images students have about older adults. A diverse group of senior citizens is selected to interact with students on a variety of subjects. The program has been such a hit with the students that the school has added additional classes to meet the demand.

INTER-GENERATIONAL
DANCE CLASS
Inter-generational Dance Class dance instructor, Joe Santoro, is joined by other senior dancers to teach students how to swing and ballroom dance. The students then teach the seniors their latest dance styles.
Inter - generational Poker…….everyone has Fun!!!
INTER-GENERATIONAL GAMES
Another class focuses on senior citizens challenging students to a game of checkers or a hand of euchre. Through the process the students find out just how skilled the seniors are and as the game gets competitive, the students lose sight that they are playing a senior citizen and just have a good time with the new friend they’ve met. It can be a humbling experience for a student when a 95 year old "cleans his clock" in a game of Checkers.

LIVING HISTORY
This class allows students to listen to and ask questions of the people who lived the history they study in their history classes. Senior citizens share their first-hand experiences about growing up in a segregated Sandusky, about World War II, or about the fight for Civil Rights.
