We are in need of volunteers who are comfortable being on the phone and computer, to coordinate rides for clients that use our Out of Town Medical Transportation Program.
Volunteer Driver for Vehicle Maintenance
We need volunteers to take two of our vehicles (one vehicle from Serving Our Seniors and one Home Delivered Meal Truck from the Erie County Senior Center) to Smith’s Top Notch Auto Shop located at 520 Finch St, Sandusky, for preventative maintenance on Thursday Afternoons and volunteers to pick up the vehicles on Friday mornings and take them back.
Also, we need volunteers to take the vehicles to be washed twice per month.
Please contact us if you would like to help.
Out-Of-Town Medical Transportation Driver
Serving Our Seniors has two cars and a van available for the drivers to use. Volunteers must pass an Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles check and a criminal background check and a geriatric driving assessment. Serving Our Seniors will pay for the cost of these checks/assessments.
- Drivers are asked to pick one day per month – such as the first Friday or the second Tuesday – to be available in case a client has an out-of-town medical appointment. (out-of-town in this case means out of Erie County).
- If you prefer not to designate a day to drive, we can call you as often as you would like us to do so.
- Rides are scheduled in advance, and drivers are asked by the Friday before the date of the appointment if they would be available to drive.
- 75% of our clients need to go to Cleveland or Toledo; therefore, we especially need drivers who do not mind driving to these locations. Drivers are free to choose not to drive to the big cities.
