to ask? Or are you getting the run-around when you try to speak to someone
about a problem? Serving Our Seniors can help!
Our Problem Solving & Advocacy Programs are the springboard for all of our other services. Our Problem Solving and Advocacy staff are available both by telephone and for home visits to help Erie County older adults with any question, problem, or concern. If we don't have the answer, we'll do our best to find the right person who does. We can also arrange a three-way telephone call with you, a representative from Serving Our Seniors, and the organization or individual in question. This is our most widely-used service and it's free to any Erie County older adult. Serving Our Seniors is THE place to call regarding any question, problem, or concern! |
| Rural
Home Delivered Meals. Are you unable to prepare yourself hot
meals? Serving Our Seniors will deliver one right to your door!
Hot, healthy, nutritious meals are available to Erie County seniors who cannot prepare themselves a hot meal and whose health may be at risk as a result. Meals are prepared in the Erie County Senior Center kitchen and are delivered by volunteers. Serving Our Seniors suggests a donation of $2.50 per meal, but any amount is acceptable. All donations are anonymous. |
| Personal Care & Housekeeping. If you're unable to perform your household cleaning, let Serving Our Seniors help. We contract with agencies whose personnel are insured and bonded to offer personal care and housekeeping services that will help you keep your home clean and healthy. Call for more information. |
| Affordable Medication Program. Do you find your self struggling to choose between buying the medicine you need to stay healthy and the food or heat you need to survive? Call Serving Our Seniors. We will help you cut medication costs by working with doctors, pharmaceutical companies, and the local pharmacy. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. Call for more information. |
| Emergency Home Repair. Does your home require repairs that you can't afford or you're unable to perform? We can help with home repairs such as electrical repair, heating, and hot water problems. The work is done through local independent contractors who are bonded and insured. There is cost-sharing for seniors who live above the poverty level and no charge for seniors in greater financial need. Call for more information. |
| Ramps. Serving Our Seniors ramp program helps Erie County seniors who cannot safely enter and exit their home because of a lack of accessibility. We loan a ramp, and coordinate its installation. The service requires cost-sharing only for labor costs associated with assembly of the ramp. |
| Rural Luncheon Socials. At three Erie County rural luncheon sites, Erie County seniors enjoy socializing with their peers and staying-in-touch with opportunities and news in their communities. A hot lunch is available at the cost of a donation (suggested amount is $2.50) Currently, the luncheons are held in Vermilion Township, Birmingham/Florence Township, and Kelley's Island. Call the Serving Our Seniors office for more information about any of these luncheons. |
| Out-of-Town Medical Transportation. Do you need help getting to a medically necessary out-of-town appointment? Call Serving Our Seniors. We can arrange for transportation to doctors/hospitals in locations such as Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo. A donation is requested for this service. |
| Handyman. Maintenance and minor home repair Our handyman will do minor repairs and general maintenance necessary to keep your home safe and sound. This service is for such jobs as cleaning gutters, door or window repairs, leaky faucets, etc. This is a cost-sharing service with the senior's contribution based upon both income and the total cost of the repair.
