Serving Our Seniors is extremely fortunate to have over 100 dedicated volunteers. As the demand for the services of Serving Our Seniors grows, volunteers play an increasingly important role in our ability to provide a high level of service and support for Erie County seniors. Volunteers are needed for home delivered meals, out of town transportation, special events and office support. If you, your organization or company is interested in contributing to your community in a meaningful way, call Sue Daugherty (419) 624-1856 to discuss joining Serving Our Seniors' volunteer service.
Serving Our Seniors has 2 cars available for the drivers to use. Volunteers must pass a Bureau of Motor Vehicle check and a criminal background check. Serving Our Seniors will pay for the cost of these inquiries.
a. Drivers pick one day per month - such as the first Friday or the second Tuesday - to be available in case a client has an out of town medical appointment. (Out of town in this case means out of Erie County).
b. Rides are scheduled in advance, and drivers are asked by the Friday before the date of the appointment if they would be available to drive.
c. 75% of our clients need to go to Cleveland or Toledo; therefore, we especially need drivers who do not mind driving to these locations. Drivers are free to choose not to drive to the big cities.
Volunteers alphabetize and file client paperwork. Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the alphabet and filing procedures. Volunteers must pass a criminal background check. Serving Our Seniors will pay for the cost of the inquiry.
Volunteers are needed to look up the city/township of some clients using the auditors' website on the internet. They will then enter the information into the client database. Training is available. Volunteers must pass a criminal background check. Serving Our Seniors will pay for the cost of the inquiry.
