Tom and Sally Sprunk adopted “Cinderella” from The Humane Society of Erie County in February 2020, where Sally has been volunteering as a dog walker. “When this dog came in, the Director, said, ‘This dog would be great for you.’ …And she was right,” said Sally. Then the pandemic hit. “What a blessing ‘Ella’ has been to us. She wants to sit on our lap and she will let us pet her forever. Petting her is one of the most calming things,” said Sally. They walk her one hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. Tom appreciates having something else occupying their time. “She brings life into our house,” he said. Sue Didion lost her Chihuahua in 2016. While at the dog pound, in January 2021, she decided to look around. “Adoption is my favorite breed,” she My Coping Cure for Covid said. One Chihuahua was available. “I picked him up and he melted into my arms.” She took him home and named him Thor. Thor brightens her day, every day. “I lost my husband in November and I was cooped up in the house, by myself, in a pandemic. Because of Thor I get out of bed earlier so he can go outside. He needs to be fed and he is a cuddler. He loves to chase birds and will dive into snow drifts to try and chase them. He is entertaining, too.” For those who have the time and the money for a pet, all three pet owners say, it makes you feel good to know that you rescued a pet. Definitely adopt! Charlie has lived at his current residence for 75 years. He is a retired Superintendent of the Berlin-Milan School District and a well-known and respected member of the Milan community. He has been a very influential community leader. When asked what was his reaction upon learning of the name change? He replied, in an appreciative tone of voice, “Amusement more than anything,” as he chuckled. It was evident that he was grateful to all who wanted to show their appreciation to Charlie for all he has given to the Milan area.
