Securing the Future for Aging Well in Erie County Our state is rapidly aging. The population map on page 14 tells a clear and urgent story. By percentages, Erie County will continue to have a greater proportion of older people for the next 25 years.  In 2024, we had more neighbors age 60 and older than we had children from infancy through age 17. This milestone is not simply a statistic — it is an important call to action. Consider this: People 36 years old today are the parents, teachers, nurses, small business owners, service workers, and volunteers Erie County relies on. They are our children and grandchildren. They are also on the threshold of later life.  By 2050, they will be 60 years old.  In time, they will be the people depending on Serving Our Seniors.  Additionally, those who are age 60, today, are likely to see another 25 years. While the senior population remains large, so will the need for services. The decisions we make today will determine whether Serving Our Seniors will be here to help people of older age maintain their health and their ability to function independently in the future. This requires planning. Serving Our Seniors Fund for the Future is an endowed fund responsibly invested by the Erie County Community Foundation. The endowment earnings will help stabilize Serving Our Seniors’ financial health as Erie County’s total population shrinks. With your donation, we can make Erie County the very best place for adults age 60+ to live, thrive and grow older successfully.
