Sheriff Paul Sigsworth asked the area
Lions Clubs Presidents if they would
help bring
PROJECT LIFESAVER
to Erie County. Project Lifesaver is a
combination of technology and trained
professionals who fnd individuals
who have wandered off due to Autism,
Down Syndrome, Alzheimer’s Disease or other forms of
dementia/cognitive impairments.
Project Lifesaver reports that there are 1,200 agencies in
45 states who participate in the program – police, sheriff,
fre, public safety departments and other emergency
responders. The method relies on proven radio technology
and specially trained search and rescue teams. Citizens
enrolled in Project Lifesaver wear a small transmitter on the
wrist or ankle that emits an individualized tracking signal. If
Project Life Saver
is Coming to Erie County
an enrolled client goes missing, the caregiver notifes their
local Project Lifesaver agency, and a trained emergency
team responds to the wanderer’s area. Most who wander
are found within a few miles from home, and search times
have been reduced from hours and days to minutes.
Recovery times average 30 minutes – 95% less time than
standard operations. Thanks to all of the Lions Clubs
in Erie County and the Erie County Sheriff’s Offce, our
community will also be part of Project Lifesaver.
The cost to be enrolled into Project Lifesaver is $10.00/
month. For more information about enrolling a loved-one
