Serving Our Seniors Magazine Jan - Mar 2021

In the October 2020 issue of Serving Our Seniors Magazine I announced the Sandusky Career Center’s LPN to RN Program donated 10 Amazon Fire Tablets and $200.00 to help fund Rural Home Delivered Meals. I mistakenly assigned the title of “Instructor” and “RN” to Tara Webb. Although Tara led the effort to raise money for Serving Our Seniors, she is a student in the LPN to RN Program. She is not the instructor. My apologies for the error. Since Governor DeWine announced the Stay At Home Order in March 2020, Nancy Sayler has been sewing masks to help other people protect themselves from the Covid-19 virus. “What started out as a project to supply my seven children and 55 grandchildren with masks, has turned into a daily affair,” she said. She is using fabric left over from sewing projects from the last 65 years. Nancy is truly a domestic engineer. Her daughter is a dental hygienist and her granddaughter works with autistic children. Both have clients who need to read lips. So Nancy has been experimenting with various ways she can make a mask that has a transparent piece of flexible vinyl over the mouth. This is so the patients can see their lips. Somehow, Nancy learned The LPN to RN Program By Sue Daugherty She Sews How Much She Cares that if a very thin coat of Dawn dishwashing liquid is spread lightly over the piece of vinyl, the transparent vinyl will not fog up. Serving Our Seniors is one of the many others who received a generous supply of her washable cloth masks. We have lost count of the number of masks she has given to us. We are giving the masks away to older adults living in Erie County. Thank you, Nancy, for “sewing” us how much you care. 24
