Catholic Charities Furniture Ministry in Sandusky helps individuals who have a place to live, but need furniture. It’s a god-send to those in need. Just ask Kennedy Wilken. He was blessed by a couple of donors who gave their furniture to Catholic Charities Furniture Ministry. When Kennedy learned about this program he had no furniture and was about to move into an apartment. He called Catholic Charities and Tricia Kemp answered the phone and asked him what he needed. He told her he needed a couch and a bed. What he appreciated about talking with her is that she cared. She explained it probably would not be new furniture. “When she said that to me I told her, ‘I don’t care if its new or not,’ ” he said. She assured him it would be cleaned before it was delivered and he would have his furniture in two days. “When she told me that, it put a smile on my face.” L: Tom Sloma, Catholic Charities Volunteer R: Kennedy Wilken Catholic Charities Furniture Ministry: It’s a God-Send Tricia Kemp Catholic Charities Office 419-502-0043. Catholic Charities believes in treating others as they would like to be treated. Kennedy received a couch and matching chair, a coffee table and an end table, a bed and a dresser. Everything was clean and well cared for and it matched. “It didn’t have any pet hair, no bed bugs, no roaches. It was nice and I laid right on it,” he said. Today, there are more people in need than Catholic Charities has furniture to give. If you have a spare bed set, dresser, night stand, couch, love seat, living room chair, end table, or kitchen table/chairs, that is clean and in good condition, please consider donating it to the Furniture Ministry. Tricia will make arrangements to pick up the furniture or the donor can deliver to the warehouse. Note: Sleeper sofas or reclining sofas are too heavy for our volunteers to move, therefore, these donations cannot be accepted.
