10 Serving Our Seniors is someone to call when you need help. 419-624-1856 800-564-1856 Alice Bagley, at age 92, defies almost every stereotype of aging that you can think of — she is still working, still learning, driving, making new friends, full of energy and enjoying life as much as ever. Alice has always been an ambitious woman, with a lot of spunk, and has the history to prove it. Born in Toledo in 1926, Alice met her husband, Frank, and they moved to Milan in 1954. They bought a lumber yard on the Milan Canal and went into the lumber business. The 4th of July flood in 1969 washed away their lumber yard, causing them to close the business and start another business, this time building homes. Frank built the homes located at Indian Acres in Milan and most of the homes on Garcia Drive in Norwalk. During these years, Alice spent much of her time raising their two daughters, Judy Fegan and Linda Maatta. In addition to being a wife and mother, she recalls she did some “odds and ends.” By that, she means doing their office work, earning her realtor’s license and selling the homes Frank built, after she decorated them. After a while, she and Frank decided to start another business. For the next 25 years, they bought and sold antique furniture. With good friends Bob and Joan Coulter, they co-produced the annual Norwalk Antique Show at the Huron County Fairgrounds. Around 2002, they decided to retire from the antique business. One day, Alice accompanied her husband to Miracle Ear for an appointment to have his hearing aids adjusted. While there, she confided in Sandy Reyes, Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist, that she didn’t know what she was going to do with herself. The next day, Sandy called Alice, who was now age 76, and offered her a job. She wanted Alice’s help, two days per month, working in customer service. The next day Alice accepted the employment offer. Over time, two days per month turned into a couple days per week. At age 78, Sandy offered Alice full-time employment. Alice accepted and continued to work full-time for approximately 2 years. By Sue Daugherty Is not in her vocabulary Alice Bagley, 92, sitting on her porch at her home.
