My name is Libby Grant. I am a college junior at Xavier University. I am majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and the Public with minors in Peace and Justice Studies and Spanish. I am thrilled to be working with Serving Our Seniors as their summer intern. I have been assigned a specific project that gives me the opportunity to be a social innovator. Thanks to a grant from the Erie County Community Foundation , this is a paid internship. I get to help Serving Our Seniors and have the opportunity to dive into the world of non-profit management and play a meaningful role in what this organization does to serve the community. My main job is to create a new program I’m calling “Flock Together.” It was taken from the phrase, “Birds of a feather, flock together.” I will work with a group of 20-25 people, who are age 60+. It’s up to me to figure out the best way to cause this group of retirees to increase their healthy, mutually beneficial, friendships — now and as they grow older. To implement “Flock Together,” I will: • Arrange social events of all kinds to create social connections. • Engage the retirees in a way that supports one’s ability to maintain his/her independence. • Help the retirees to meet others who have similar interests. • Offer my help to foster interaction that is socially, mentally, and physically healthy for everyone involved. • Work to see how Serving Our Seniors can replicate this project over time. If you have any thoughts or ideas to suggest you can reach me at LibbyGrant@servingourseniors.org or 419-624-1856. Meet Libby Grant: A Social Innovator Libby Grant
