It is a wonderful community asset and used by people of all ages. Sandusky Transit System makes it possible for those who do not own a car or no longer drive get to where they want to go. There is a bus stop system, as well as, a system for being picked up at home. When retirees decide to retire their car keys they aren’t homebound. Sandusky Transit will pick you up at your home. The driver will even come to the door of your home or apartment building and escort you to the bus. Just ask for this “door-to-door” service when scheduling your trip. Serving Our Seniors has worked in partnership with STS since 2012 to prevent those age 60+ from being home-bound, unnecessarily. From 2012-2016, the number of trips for older adults ranged from 800 - 1,000 trips per month, increasing to an average of 1,319 in 2017. Serving Our Seniors scheduled a total of 15,828 rides from October 2017 through July 2018. In 2018, to keep the cost of rides affordable for the 60+ population, Serving Our Seniors will pay a total of $172,000.00 to support Sandusky Transit System for the transportation services it provides to passengers of older age. He/she is asked to contribute $1.50 each time they board the bus. If you have never ridden on Sandusky Transit System you should give it a try. Serving Our Seniors can help you.
