Serving Our Seniors Magazine July - September 2025

Serving Our Seniors is here to help Erie County citizens, age 60+, maintain their health and their ability to function, on their own – independently – as they continue to grow older in our community. There are a lot of us! According to FACTS USA, in 2022 Erie County’s population was 74,501. The U.S. Census defines an older adult at 65 years of age. In the year 2022, there were 17,582 people at age 65 or older. Because the U.S. census does not report changes in the older population at age 60, I did a search using artificial intelligence. If this finding is correct, there were 5,550 Erie County residents, ages 60 – 64 in 2022. A total population of 23,132 older adults at age 60+. 31% of Erie County is older in age. This is a higher percentage than the State of Ohio, which is an estimated 24.7% and greater than the national average of 23.3%. DID YOU KNOW… Those Erie County residents, who live to see age 65, have an average life expectancy of age 83. (Source: Scripp Gerontology Center, Miami University) Serving Our Seniors has the following programs to help Erie County residents, ages 60+ maintain their health and functional independence. Handyman Program Housekeeping Program Ramps Program Dental Care Denture Replacement Program Caregiver Respite Vouchers When an older adult needs, but cannot afford the full cost of these services, Serving Our Seniors is here to help pay the portion that is beyond one’s ability to afford. We call this “Cost-sharing.” Because there are over 23,000 Erie County residents, ages 60+, Serving Our Seniors can’t help pay for all who are age 60+. Instead, we work on the problem/need, together. Cost sharing is a partnership. Serving Our Seniors offers its expertise and resources; and the older adult does their part, by paying an amount that works for their budget. We pay the balance. Through respectful communication and a mutual commitment to work with each other, Serving Our Seniors helps retirees afford what they need. This is why, for the last 28 years, we have been intentional about doing our work with integrity; and deserving of the community’s trust. For more information, call our office at 419-624-1856.
