Serving Our Seniors Magazine July - September 2025

To assist Erie County older adults, age 60+, who have a major plumbing repair need, but lack the means to afford it, Serving Our Seniors has a new program to assist with this need. Its purpose is to help older adults maintain their home in a sanitary condition, in which they can live and remain housed. To qualify, applicants must own and live in the home full time. He/she must demonstrate they do not have the finances to pay for the needed major plumbing repair. The homeowner will be asked to make a contribution toward the cost of the plumbing repair, in an amount that does not cause financial difficulty. The homeowner must also agree to Serving Our Seniors placing a “hold” on the property. This allows Serving Our Seniors to recoup some of the cost after the home is sold or transferred. 10% of the cost of the plumbing repair will be forgiven each year for the first 5 years. When the home is sold or transferred, 50% of the cost of the plumbing repair will be paid to Serving Our Seniors. No interest will be charged. There are additional eligibility criteria. For more information about qualifying for the major plumbing repair program, call Serving Our Seniors at 419-624-1856 and ask to speak with a Senior Advocate Assistant.
