Serving Our Seniors Magazine July - September 2025

Feeling lonely and spending significant amounts of time by yourself, can lead to poor mental and physical health. Research supports spirituality/ religion as being a contributing factor for aging well into later life. EmpowHER Women’s Ministry is made of three women, who are members of Providence Baptist Church in Sandusky. They have given a helping hand to Serving Our Seniors for the last three years. Lady Kaliah Strong, wife of the Pastor of Providence Baptist Church, Toka Clark and Dawnisha McKinley come together to practice sisterhood, service and study. “ Sisterhood to empower one another and build each other up. Service, to be in the community and demonstrate the love of Jesus. Study to learn from the word of God and uplift the women in this ministry.” Toka, is in charge of outreach. “We genuinely have a heart for the people. Bridging the gap between the church and the community through service is our goal. We are readily available with a ready heart and hands to serve.” “We need to come together, as women, because sometimes we are all that we have at the end of the day,” said Kaliah. “The members of EmpowHER Ministry check-in and encourage one another. I truly believe we are not made to do this walk, called life, on our own. We were all put here for a designated purpose.” Reaching out when feeling alone is not easy to do. Dawnisha offered this, “Keep God first, always pray and reach out to a ministry like us. We can’t fill the void, completely, but we can guide you in the right direction. No matter who you are – your color, your race or age; we just want to reach one, to teach one.” On August 16 & 17, 2025, Providence Baptist Church is celebrating its 68th anniversary. As more of our day-to-day advocacy involves information technology (IT), Kalea has been assisting Sue Daugherty, Director and Anthony Pool, QA Manager; and she is also coming to everyone’s aid when we are stumped by software problems and computer device problems. She has been a valuable addition to our office. We are grateful to have her knowledge and skills to assist all of us. Welcome, Kalea!
