The money was used to established The Piggy Bank Fund. Its purpose is to help older adults with a specific and important need – not something that is simply wanted. One such example is an older adult who was $400 short of affording the cost of replacing an old septic tank. She called Serving Our Seniors for help. Her retirement income was enough to allow her to repay the $400.00 over time. No interest is charged. The repayments were made based on the honor system, in amounts that were manageable and never caused financial hardship. The money that is repaid to the Piggy Bank Fund is used, again, to help the next senior citizen who has an important need, they cannot afford. As of today, we have $2,385.79 in the Piggy Bank Fund. We have helped a total of 39 Erie County older adults, since its inception. Over the 10 year period, 11 did not honor their word to repay. One person passed away before repayment could be made.
