Delores Dennis Memories are such fragile things That can waft away from the mind. Leaving not a trace of the joys Or sadness in your life behind. My love was touched by the finger Of an unknown forgetfulness. Erasing his storehouse of years Of what he was and who he is. His growing up years on the farm, Our long marriage of sixty years, Our families, persons and things, All wafted away. It brings tears. My dearest love, I dread the day When you cannot remember me. Memories are such fragile things, But – you are in my memory. Composed June 9, 1988, in honor of her husband, Louis, who had Alzheimer’s disease.
