Serving Our Seniors Magazine
Serving Our Seniors is here to help Erie County residents ages 60+. We have changed our slogan from “Someone to Call When You Need Help” to “Your Partner & Advocate When You Need Help.” A partner is one who works with you to achieve a goal / solve a problem. A partner doesn’t do everything for you, nor are you left to do it alone. When Serving Our Seniors says, we are your partner it means we work with you – not instead of you. We achieve the goal or solve the problem, together. Each of us doing what is within our ability to accomplish. In terms of financial support, Serving Our Seniors has specific programs where we step up and pay the portion of the cost that is beyond what your household can afford. For challenges, which are not financial Serving Our Seniors works with you as your advocate, guiding you through the process while relying on you to supply accurate information or documentation needed for a successful outcome. As an advocate, we are here to stand up for you when you need it, but only in ways that our help is wanted. We don’t take over or make choices for you. We listen, we respect your wishes and we work together to solve problems standing in the way of successful aging. When you are being dismissed or marginalized, Serving Our Seniors works to see that you receive the attention you deserve. We use our connections to navigate bureaucracies and overcome barriers. We are here to be a helper, supporter and a troubleshooter in partnership with you, the Erie County resident, age 60+. Serving Our Seniors: Your Partner & Advocate When You Need Help Serving Our Seniors helps Erie County residents, aged 60 or better, through “cost-sharing.” This means you can apply to Serving Our Seniors to help you pay a portion of the cost to afford the help that you need. You pay what is within your household’s ability to contribute and Serving Our Seniors pays the remaining balance. For those who qualify, Serving Our Seniors will help pay for: • Small home repairs (nothing cosmetic) and small home modifications. This means fixing things at your home to keep it well maintained. It is easier to keep a small home repair problem small, than to ignore it until it becomes a costly major repair. It also includes installing grab bars, shower chairs and/or handheld showers and railings to prevent falling. A small repair is defined as $450.00 or less. If it requires a licensed plumber, a small repair is defined as $600.00 or less. • Housekeeping Services • Dental Care up to $600.00 • Ramp installation For more information or to request a Serving Our Seniors Application for Cost-Sharing call 419-624-1856.
