She’s Found
the
Fountain of Youth
This story is about Peggy, an “older” woman who is a
resident of Huron, and how she discovered the fountain
of youth. She takes no medications and has always been
physically active since her childhood because she noticed
it made her feel better. It was her active lifestyle as a
young and middle-aged adult that caused her children to
be physically active. She was their role model and they
became adult marathon runners.
Peggy shared a story about the day when she was
babysitting her grandchildren while her adult children ran
in the New York Marathon. It was then that Peggy had
her epiphany in 1994. “I decided next year I am going to
run in that race” …. And so she did. In 1995 she ran in
the New York Marathon with her kids – Dr. Kate Keveill,
Karen Keville, John Keville, Marueen Kubieck and
Trish Miller.
Two years ago she ran in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in
San Diego with her kids. Today, she walks 20 miles a
week. In the winter she walks on her treadmill. She does
Yoga on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and aerobics
classes Monday, Wednesdays & Fridays 5:30pm –
6:30pm. She keeps up with the other participants who
are in their 30’s and 40’s. If that isn’t enough, Peggy also
swims laps, 8 months/year at Sawmill Creek, while her
husband does water walking.
