Taking away the stigma of having Alzheimer’s disease is
key for everyone who is trying to cope and maintain their
independence. According to the Alzheimer’s Association
website “In
January 2006 the Association established an advisory group
composed of people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s
disease. The group is helping the Association provide the
most appropriate services for people living with early-stage
Alzheimer’s, raise awareness about early-stage issues and
advocate with legislators to increase funding for research
and support programs”.
“These Early Stage Advisors share their personal insights about the daily strategies
they use to address such challenges as managing schedules, taking medications,
dealing with changes in relationships and overcoming stigma. Their experiences can
help you to think creatively as you develop your own strategies for living with the
Brenda Hendricks, gerontologist with the Alzheimer’s Association – NW Ohio
Chapter and Serving Our Seniors have formed a partnership to bring “Transitions:
An Early Stage Group” to Erie County. It meets the third Thursday of each month
from 11:00 – 12:00 noon, The Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene, 1617
Milan Rd. - Sandusky. The group is led by Brenda Hendricks and offers humor, help
and hope, while living with memory changes.
Also on the third Thursday of each month from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, Brenda Hendricks
hosts an informal “get-together” called

at Sandusky Community
Church of the Nazarene, 1617 Milan Rd – Sandusky. It is available to anyone who
has questions about aging & memory changes. From 2:15 – 5:00pm, Brenda is
available for private appointments at Serving Our Seniors offce. Call in advance to
