DON’T RESPOND: IT’S A SCAM Have you received this text message, before? So have I. The first thing that made me know it was not Amazon is the text message is from davidorriks@... The gimmick is to get you to interact. If you do, you are perfect prey for the scammer. You will be sent to a fake Amazon page that looks like the real Amazon page. The scammer might be after your Amazon Username/Password, e-mail password, credit/debit card password, bank account information, address, etc… The lesson is don’t click anything! It’s a scam!! By Sue Daugherty This is not from Amazon HURON DIAL A RIDE: The Power of Volunteering By India Gray Dial A Ride is an all-volunteer transportation service that offers free rides to health related appointments for seniors aged 60+. The program started around 1981 and is now run by siblings Bob Hastings and Donna Green. The two were introduced to the Dial A Ride by their father, who drove for the program in the 1990s. According to Bob, “Dial A Ride recognized that there was a need to provide seniors with transportation in Huron.” After retiring in 2018, Bob began volunteering for Dial A Ride as a substitute driver. Bob says, “This is just like a family member picking you up and taking you to your appointment.” He and Donna have been co-facilitating the program since 2022. As the Program Director, Bob is now responsible for  recruiting volunteers,  paying bills, scheduling, and applying for grants. Dial A Ride is primarily funded by the Mylander Foundation and the Sidney Frohman Foundation. Donna coordinates trips and confirms callers’ eligibility. Dial A Ride only offers transportation for health-based needs. To be eligible, callers’ personal residence must be located in Huron or Huron Township. Huron Dial A Ride does not have a handicapped accessible van. The drivers can accommodate passengers using walkers and canes. There is no charge for the ride, but donations are welcome. Passengers are to call at least 48 hours in advance. However, requesting a ride as soon as the health appointment is booked is strongly recommended. To request a ride call Dial-A-Ride at  419-503-0201. 21
