Randy is neat and a planner; Pat is more spontaneous.  You know Randy as the morning DJ with WCPZ.  He recently retired along with his wife, Pat.  Their love story was not love at first sight. Pat sold advertising for WLEC AM. They both met at work and at first impression, Pat thought Randy was pompous. Randy didn’t notice Pat until her 40th birthday party when it was celebrated at the Old Dutch Tavern. Their arms bumped. Randy joked, “Trying to get fresh?” Pat shot back, “In your dreams.”  Later that night, they talked — and they clicked. Randy asked her out and after the first date, Randy knew immediately: “I think I found the person.” They kept their relationship quiet until a wedding invitation forced them to go public. A few years later, Randy proposed via a romantic scavenger hunt on Pat’s birthday, ending with a ring. Their wedding at The Twine House was a comedy of errors. Randy’s son forgot his pants, which he was to wear in the wedding. Pat forgot the flowers, and the DJ never showed. Pat’s teenage son retrieved the missing items, but the ceremony went on without music.  The officiant, Sandusky tea leaf reader and mystic, Ellen Kraus, predicted lifelong happiness. Pat said, “And she was right.”  The photographer forgot film for the camera, so only guests’ photos remain. Because of Pat’s brothers’ love of Indians baseball, the reception moved to the bar downstairs for Game One of The World Series with the Marlins. When asked what she admires about Randy today, Pat said, “He’s willing to try anything. He’s helpful and always there for me. He’s my best friend — I can talk to him about anything, and that’s rare.” Randy added, “She’s my balance. When I’m upset, she calms me. She’s my best friend, and I, too, can tell her anything.” These days, they enjoy spending time with family and watching their children as successful parents. Being grandparents is more fun — and far less stressful. 11
