Q: I have two steps to get into my house. I have no
railing to hold on to when I try to walk into my home.
I’m afraid I am going to fall. Is there anything Serving
Our Seniors can do to help me?
A: Yes! The Erie County Health
Department was awarded a $10,000.00
grant to make fall prevention home
improvements to the homes/apartments
of Erie County residents, ages 60+. They
have asked Serving Our Seniors to put this funding into
action. Call us! We can do a project up to $300 at no cost
to you.

Q: I need to have small things done around my house,
but I don’t trust letting “just anyone” into my home.
Plus, I probably can’t afford the cost of a professional.
Can you help me?
A: Probably. We have “cost-sharing”,
which means you pay what you can
afford (if you qualify) and Serving Our
Seniors will pay the difference. We also
have a “Handyman” Program, which
does small/minor home repairs to ensure
a safe and sanitary place to live. We do not “cost-share”
for work that is wanted for cosmetic purposes only. Call us
for more information.

Q: I’m happy with my Medicare Part D coverage
(prescription drug insurance). Do I really need to shop
for other Medicare Part D plans for 2016?
A: You would be wise to see how your
current prescription drug plan will
change in 2016. All insurance plans
reserve the right to make changes to
their coverage, year-to-year. There
may be a different plan that covers
your medications better and at less
cost. If you don’t “shop” you won’t find out. Call us and
ask for a Medicare Part D appointment. Call today!

Q: I have a legal problem and I can’t afford an attorney.
I don’t qualify for legal aid. Is there a way I can get
legal advice without having to pay $150 - $250/hour?
A: We can help you call Pro Seniors
(800-488-6070) or you can call them
directly. They will give up to a ½ hour
of legal advice free of charge. Some of
our clients prefer that we are involved
when the call takes place. That way we
can take notes as the attorney provides
the advice. If there are any steps you are advised to take,
someone from Serving Our Seniors can assist you – if you
would like such help.

Q: My parents health is failing. I promised them I
would do everything I can to keep them at home. I
don’t know what to do. Does Serving Our Seniors do
this type of work?
A: We do. I am a “Senior Advocate” and
it is my job to assist Erie Co. residents,
ages 60+ and coordinate care and
services that are available to support
them to maintain their independence.
For more information, call and ask to
speak with me.

Q: How far in advance do I need to request a ride
for out of town transportation to my health care
appointment in Toledo?
A: The more notice the better. Even
if you know one or two months in
advance… It’s not too early to call. It
is very difficult to find a driver if you
make your request on short notice.
Please try to give us, at least, five
business days advanced notice.

Q: How do I get a pass to watch Sandusky school
athletic events for free?
A: Come to our office with your proof of your age (60 or
better) and that your address is in the Sandusky school
district. We will issue the pass.
