Got Medicare? Ask Patricia...
Question:
Are there any Medicare programs that help with
paying for Medicare premiums, co-pays, or drug costs?
Answer:
Yes!
We call them “Medicare Savings Programs”.
They help those who have limited income and assets to
pay the cost of the Medicare Part B premium, deductibles,
coinsurance and copayments.
There are four Medicare Savings Programs:
1. Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB)
2. Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB)
3. Qualifying Individual (QI) (Qualified Disabled &
Working Individuals (QDWI)
4. Qualified Disabled & Working Individuals (QDWI)
If you qualify for a QMB, SLMB or QI program, you
automatically qualify for Extra Help, which helps to pay for
Medicare prescription drug coverage and much of the cost
of the medicine.

Question:
I am seeing ads for Medicare Open Enrollment.
When is “open enrollment” and what does this mean?
Answer:
Good questions! Open Enrollment is October
15th – December 7th. It is the time of year when all
Medicare covered enrollees are reminded to review
their Medicare Advantage Plan or Medicare Part D Drug
Plan for the coming year. Why? Because each year the
Medicare plans CHANGE! The 2015 plan goes away and
new plans are available for 2016!
There can be changes to the coverage, cost (premium,
deductibles, coinsurance and copayments), and in the
Medicare Open Enrollment
case of Medicare Part D – what drugs it will cover will
change.
For help reviewing your
2016 Medicare Advantage
Plans
call Serving Our Seniors (1-800-564-1856 or 419-
624-1856) and
ask for an appointment with an OSHIIP
Medicare Counselor.
