Robert said to her, “But I’m not.”
He likes it better when people just come up to him, rather
than sit back and stare. It makes him uncomfortable. “You
don’t know what people are thinking when they are just
sitting back there starring at you. A lot of times people will
come up to me and apologize for staring. They will say to me
you just look so much like Morgan Freeman. You aren’t him,
are you? I get it all the time”, he said.
He told his mother that he understands why stars don’t go out
in public. “I’m not a star and sometimes it gets to me. People
just walk right up to you and want to shake your hand”.
There was another
time he was out with his
daughter. A girl, whom he
didn’t know, walked up to
him and asked for him for
his autograph. He told her,
“I’m not him”.
She said, “Please sign it. I
know you’re telling me that
so I leave you alone”.
Again he said, “No. I’m
really not him. So I can’t
sign it”.
Robert’s daughter took the piece of paper and wrote, “Robert
Wiggins, Morgan Freeman look alike” and gave it to the girl,
who went on her way.
He told me he said to myself, “I’m not going to sign that and
be put in jail for being an imposter,” as he chuckled.
There was another time when he was out to eat with family.
A girl walked up to him and apologized for her entire table
staring at him. She told him how much he looks like Morgan
Freeman and asked if she could take a picture.
“I told her, go ahead. I just don’t want to see it on YouTube,
or what-have-you”.
The girl went over to her table and came back with five
phones to take his picture.
About five years ago, a couple of guys saw him at the
bowling alley in Sandusky. One of them bet that he was the
real Morgan Freeman. To determine who won the bet, both
walked over to Robert and asked to see his driver’s license
to prove that he was/was not Morgan Freeman.
I asked Robert if he has attempted to meet the movie star.
He hasn’t. He did say he would like to have the opportunity
to stand side-by-side with Morgan Freeman and have
someone take their picture.
The closest he has ever come to meeting Morgan Freeman
was visiting Freeman’s blues club/ restaurant in Clarksdale,
Mississippi. As you can imagine, this is another story in itself.
Robert went to the restaurant with his mother and his sisters.
When they walked in a lot of people came into the restaurant
immediately following his entrance.
The waitress told Robert that
Morgan Freeman does not
allow people to come up to
him when he comes to the
restaurant. That may explain
why the other customers
stayed away from him.
I asked Robert if the
restaurant picked up his
dinner tab. He laughed and
said, “I haven’t got that far
yet. You’re the first.” He was
referring to the coke and
french fries that I bought him, while I conducted this interview
at Denny’s Restaurant.
If you are wondering what a Morgan Freeman look-alike
does, when his
life isn’t being
interrupted by
Morgan Freeman
fans, let me tell
you…
Robert Wiggins
is a newlywed.
He married Cora
Williams in the
summer of 2015. They both attend New Jerusalem Church in
Sandusky.
He thinks his wife is enjoying her new found fame of being
Morgan Freeman’s better half. “Just about everywhere we go
someone is coming up to us”.
