In 2008 Serving Our Seniors asked Buderer Drug
Company if it would “pilot” a project at their facility.

were throwing away. Matt & Jim Buderer, both
pharmacists, agreed to give it a try. Serving Our
Seniors helped to fund the operations, and provided
labor to get the Drug Repository going. Today, Erie
County has a Drug Repository Program that still
operates, without Serving Our Seniors’ funding and
without any of Serving Our Seniors’ labor.
The Drug Repository provides low cost medications
for Ohio residents who lack the financial means to

d. Ev

o
se
who have prescription drug insurance can’t always
afford to fill their prescriptions. This is caused by high
insurance deductibles, expensive co-pays – or maybe
that particular drug isn’t covered by the insurance
policy. Patients who “fall into the Medicare Part D
donut hole” are another example of when insured

Erie County residents, age 60+, to determine if they
are eligible to use the Drug Repository. If that resident
qualifies, Serving Our Seniors faxes a letter to Buderer
Drug Company notifying them that this specific person
qualifies to use the Drug Repository.
The cost is $20.00 for name brand drugs up to a 30 day
supply (injectable insulin is not available); $15.00 for
generic medication for up to a 90 day supply. The quantity
that is filled is dependent upon availability. You see, the
Drug Repository relies on institutional pharmacies to

donated, then it is not available – or not be available in
the quantity prescribed. (Drugs that have been stored at
home cannot be donated to the Drug Repository.)
