Retirement can be a time of personal discovery - if you choose.
Rob Smith is a great example. After he retired from being an
instructor of religion and philosophy at Wright State University, he
moved to Huron, Ohio and made it his permanent home in 2005.
He gives a great deal of his time volunteering to support the Huron
Playhouse. He has served as President and Vice President, as
well as acting in shows since 2006.
In this photo, Rob is a Huron Playhouse actor, playing “Doc” in the
play WSS. This gave him the opportunity to act opposite Benjamin
Frankart, a college student studying theater and the recipient of
the 2015 Broadway World Cleveland’s “Best Actor” award for his
performance in Huron Playhouse’s “Footloose.”
The Huron Playhouse wants community members to know that
when there are support roles they put out a call to community
members to audition. Beyond the on stage work, however, there
are many ways to help the theater.
Rob is a volunteer in charge of the Playhouse’s “Ambassador”
program, which seeks other volunteers to help on show nights with
greeting, ushering, and parking. He said, “It’s the ambassadors
that make the Huron Playhouse possible. Every night 12 – 14
ambassadors are needed. There are lots of little jobs to make the
theater work”.
He would like to recruit people to volunteer on the Hospitality
Team so they can have a Tuesday night crew, Wednesday night
crew, Thursday night crew and Friday night crew. Start time for
volunteering is 6:45pm and responsibilities end at 8:00pm.
