Serving Our Seniors is a local, geriatric, social service. This non-profit organization stands up for the rights of older people and works to eliminate ageism in Erie County. The agency helps older adults to maintain their health and functional- independence as they grow older in our community.

Serving Our Seniors is accepting employment applications for a part-time, Clerical Support position. No prior experience is required. Will train the right person. $14.00/hour

This part-time position is Monday through Friday 12:30pm – 5pm. No holidays, no weekends. Serving Our Seniors is seeking high school applicants permitted to go to school in the morning and work in the afternoon.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to:

  • Communicate well over the phone and in-person. Possess the necessary volume of speech and annunciation for those who are hearing impaired.
  • Communicate well in writing.
  • Perform basic math
  • Use a computer and Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Type 45 words per minute
  • Use a telephone
  • Learn and effectively use Serving Our Seniors customized database
  • Be helpful and supportive of co-workers who need clerical support/assistance.

Senior Advocate Assistant Position – Full Time

Serving Our Seniors, Inc. is accepting employment applications from caring people who would enjoy learning how to solve problems affecting older people in later life.

The position is titled, “Senior Advocate Assistant.” No prior experience is required. We will train the right person who possesses the qualities of being a patient personality with a desire for helping others. The right person is someone who is coachable, dependable and willing to learn about the field of geriatric social service.

This is an entry-level social service position and an ideal stepping-stone for developing one’s professional resume in the field of health care, social work or any other human service profession. The work environment is supportive of one another and co-workers help each other to succeed.

The work involves answering the telephone, listening to a variety of questions/problems and concerns called into Serving Our Seniors office by older adults (age 60+), who live in Erie County. The Senior Advocate Assistant helps older adults by resolving their questions/problems/concerns. The Senior Advocate also is responsible for accurately documenting the nature of the problem(s) on a computer and all of the steps taken to resolve the issue.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Able to pass a criminal background check and drug test
  2. Able to type 40 words per minute with accuracy.
  3. Able to demonstrate basic knowledge to use Word, Access and Excel.
  4. Able to speak on the telephone and clearly articulate words loud enough for hearing impaired clients and effectively communicate.
  5. Able to drive and go to meetings and home visits occasionally throughout the year.
  6. Able to reliably arrive to work 5 days per week 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday without being late/tardy.

Rate of pay $16.00/hour. Paid health insurance, dental insurance and life insurance after 90 days. Employee pays nothing toward receiving these benefits. Retirement benefit after 2 years of employment.
