Time to Seek Our Help with Medicare Pricing & Coverage
Just because you were happy with your Medicare
Advantage Plan or your Medicare Part D coverage
this year, doesn’t mean you will be happy with it next
year. It pays to shop! By that I mean, look into what the
premiums are going to be for your Medicare Advantage
Plans and Medicare Part D Plans, in 2017.
Your insurance plan is responsible for notifying you by
October 1st of changes. If you haven’t received your
letter yet, you will. It is a letter that looks like junk mail,
but it’s not! The letter is known as an Annual Notice of
Change (ANOC) in insurance coverage. It will inform you
of changes to your premium, coverage, what medicine it
will pay for and any restrictions.
Now is the time to review your health care plan. Seek
the help of an OSHIIP Medicare counselor to compare
your insurance plan options for coverage, cost and
convenience.
The volunteer OSHIIP Medicare Counselors can help you
decipher your options if you want to purchase a different
Medicare Advantage Plan, but our volunteers have
limited availability. So make your appointments early! The
volunteers will take appointments on a first come, first
serve basis. When they are full, they are full.
Serving Our Seniors’ Advocate Assistants can help you
decipher which Medicare Part D plan will cover you best
for the amount of money you are able to afford.
Erie County residents, ages 60+ should call Serving Our
Seniors
now
(419-624-1856 or 800-564-1856) to request
a Medicare Counseling appointment or a Medicare Part
D appointment during the open enrollment period of
October 15, 2016 through December 7, 2016.
Fewer than 5% of people, age 65 and older, live in
nursing homes, also referred to as “long-term care
facilities”. Because it is so expensive to live in a nursing
home, ($70,000.00 per year) Medicaid is often the payer
for these health care costs. Medicaid is health insurance
for low income individuals. At $70,000.00/year it is easy
to see how someone could become poor, quickly.
Medicaid is not the same as Medicare. Medicare does
not pay for older adults to live in a nursing home/long
term care facility. It only pays for rehabilitation in a
nursing home.
Do you have concerns about how you will afford nursing
home care should you, or your spouse, need 24 hour
care? What can be done to avoid bankruptcy before
Medicaid will pay when nursing home placement is
necessary? To improve your understanding, attend our
forum on
